Kids Q

  • Smokin' on Big Creek BBQ is sponsored by EZ Grill and Wild Blue BBQ. Each child entered will receive an EZ Grill on which they will be required to cook their entry. They will also receive approximately two pounds of ground beef, donated by Scott Stanley of Wild Blue BBQ.
  • Each child must provide all of his or her own supplies, such as seasonings, wood chips, utensils, etc. The EZ GRill is a disposable grill that comes with charcoal already included.
  • The Kids Q competition will have two age groups: 5 to 10 and 11 to 15.
  • There will be only one category in 2010. The event will once again take place on Saturday morning this year as Friday evenings in April are often difficult for school children who cannot make it to the contest in time.
  • Turn in will be at 10:30 AM, in plenty of time for parents to get back to the work of the KCBS chicken category.
  • Each entered child entered in each age group will receive approximately two pounds of ground beef, donated by Scott Stanley, Stilwell, Kansas.
  • Garnish is optional and cooks choice (KCBS garnish rules do NOT apply).
  • Kids Q Cook's meeting will be at 9:00 AM at the Miller Lite Pavilion.
  • Kids will cook their entries ata centralized location announced at the Kids Q cook meeting. A child may enter the competition if parents are not in the contest, however, a parent or other adult over age 18 will need to be present with the child at all times.
  • Turn-in location will be Miller Lite Pavilion.
  • Winners for each age group will be announced during the contest awards ceremony at approximately 4:00 PM on Saturday, April 3.
  • Payout will be announced at the contest cook's meeting.
  • Enter by placing your kids on the main entry form and attend the meeting. We'll get all names there. If you are not a competing team but would like your child to cook, email BigCreekBBQ@Embarqmail.com and let me know.
  • Parents may NOT help children with the exception of dangerous activities such as use of knives or handling fire. If a contest staff person observes a parent doing otherwise, the child will be disqualified. Do not do this to your child. It is not a "win at all cost" event.
  • You may email the organizer (BigCreekBBQ@Embarqmail.com) if you have additional questions.
